Our mattress top is flexible in its design. You may completely take off the
cotton cover and launder it separately at any time.
A large table or bed top works well to manipulate the cover and wool.
- To take top apart:
- Unzip the cover's zipper, keeping the wool fibers away from the teeth.
- Unsnap the snaps that fasten the two sides together. Do this one snap at
a time. As the snap ribbon is removed from the wool batt, place a snap
clothes pin in the hole that was created by the ribbon, marking and
preserving the hole's placement for easy relocation later.
- After all the snaps are unsnapped and marked with clothes pins, remove
the cotton cover.
The cover is now free to be machine washed and tumble dried.
Pressing the cover keeps it looking crisp.
- To put top back together:
- Turn the cotton cover inside out. The snap ends with the bumps should be
facing up (not the snap ends with the holes).
- Place the wool filling on top of the cover. Center the holes in the wool
(marked by the clothes pins) over the snaps of the cover. If you are
adding new wool or have had your wool recarded, create a new hole
through the wool by wiggling your finger down through the wool at
each snap placement.
- Pull each snap ribbon back up through each hole. As each snap is drawn
through the hole in the wool, place a clothes pin on the ribbon to keep it
upright.
- From the zippered end, gently roll the wool filling with one layer of
the cotton cover only. Roll it up enough so that the bottom layer of the
cover can be slipped around to encase the wool filling.
- Snap together each set of snaps.
- Close zipper.
